Quebec Silicon (Ferroglobe) fights to keep the Canadian duty on Chinese Si

Prior to next week’s vote by the Canadian International Trade Tribunal on whether to eliminate the penalty duty on Chinese silicon, Quebec Silicon (Ferroglobe) wrote the CIIT that while its financial situation has improved from the original dumping decree five years ago it was only because the dumping duties were in effect. Quebec said that “the fundamental reality of the global market for silicon metal is that China: a) has abundance of excess production capacity; b) has enormous volume of actual production in excess of domestic demand that has limited or no access to other major markets (being the EU and the US due to trade remedy measures being put in place); and C) essentially determines the price in every market to which they have access.
