Orissa’s pollution control board, (SPCB), in thought to be in favor of letting Balasore Alloys and Odisha Mining expand its chrome operations event though the operations are in default. A hearing on the proposals was scheduled for Apr. 17.
Balasore Alloys wants to increase its ferrochrome capacity by 15,660 mt from the current 91,374 mt while OMC wants to pub chrome mining to 300,000 mtpy from 130,000 mtpy. Orissa has charged a number of ferrochrome miners and smelters with over producing and levied huge fines on them.
