Following the ITA’s final decision reaffirming penalty and countervailing duties on silicon metal from Brazil, Australia, Norway, and Kazakhstan, a full court press is now being applied to the ITC to determine that there was no injury or threat of injury to Ferroglobe (GSM). Already, 16 member of the House of Representatives, two Senators, and Governor of Michigan has written to the ITC in opposition to the potential duties. Also, the ITC’s sunset hearing on removing the penalty duties on Chinese silicon has attracted a great deal of attention.
Usually the sunset duty investigation is a snoozer but not this time.
It’s not the fight over Sec 232 duties on imports of steel and aluminum but the stakes to the consuming industries are the same.
