Chinese imports of Cr ore and 4% C in January 2018

China imported 1,240,499 mt of chrome ore in January 2018, up 3.1% (1,202,888 mt) MoM but down 19% (1,530,596 mt) YoY.

The major suppliers in January 2018 (% change MoM and YoY, respectively) were: South Africa, 952,391 mt (+7.1% and -11.4%); Turkey, 87,812 mt (+102.9% and -34.5%); Zimbabwe, 51,395 mt (+24.5% and +71.5%); Oman, 46,671 mt (-4.5% and -17.5%); Albania, 37,844 mt (+26.7% and -47.6%) Pakistan, 23,568 mt (+34.3% and -59.2%). Takeaway, South Africa’s exports to China remain strong while Zimbabwe gained importance.

China imported 199,459 mt of over 4% C ferrochrome in January, up 12.8% MoM (176,880 mt) but down 7.2% YoY (214,829 mt).

The major suppliers in January 2018 (% change MoM and YoY, respectively) were: South Africa, 105,811 mt (-1% and -16% ); Kazakhstan, 62,829 mt (+47.6% and +169.1%); India, 13,694 mt (-29.7% and -62.6%); and Zimbabwe, 13,311 mt (+112.7% and +37.4%). Takeaways, Zimbabwe and Kazakhstan came on strong while India sagged.
