China is an environmental mess that won’t go away. The manganese metal market is in a frenzy with rumors that the world’s largest producer, China’s TMI, has stopped all production for a least a few weeks. The reasons are unknown but analysts suspect a environmental crackdown.
The Chinese government may not be so quick to allow smelters, including compliant ferrosilicon smelters, to reopen. It seems China’s ambient pollution problems have to spread to South Korea just in time for the upcoming winter Olympics. One wag suggested that the recent snowfall in South Korea wasn’t white but grey.
