ANC looks into expropriating land without compensation in South Africa

For every step forward, South Africa’s ANC seems to take two steps back. The party’s executive committee on economic transformation wants to amend the country’s constitution to allow EXPROPRIATION OF PRIVATE LAND WITHOUT COMPENSATION.

While the constitution will have to be amended and would need a two-thirds vote in the country’s Parliament to put into effect, just the proposal puts a chill in the air. The current constitution allows for the government to expropriate land when it is in the public interest but there has to be a just and equitable compensation to the land owners.
