US steel production in the week ended Dec. 9, 2017

US raw steel production was 1,672,000 tons in the week ended Dec. 9, 2017 while the capability utilization was 71.7%. Production was up 4% from the same 2016 period when output was 1,607,000 tons while the capability utilization then was 67.8%. Production for the week ended Dec. 9, 2017 was down 2.8% from the previous week when production was 1,720,000 tons and the rate of capability utilization was 73.8%.

Adjusted year-to-date production through Dec. 9, 2017 was 85,053,000 tons at a capability utilization of 74.5%. That is up 4.3% from the 81,558,000 tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 70.5%.
