US imports of 4% C FeCr well above 2016 levels

US imports of over 4% C ferrochrome were 535,476 mt in the first 10 months of 2017 and 36,249 mt in October vs. 445,958 mt and 27,092 mt, respectively, in the same 2016 periods.

The major suppliers in the first 10 months of 2017 (same 2016 period in parentheses) were: South Africa, 322,291 mt (274,140 mt); Kazakhstan, 59,789 mt (38,745 mt); Finland, 28,129 mt (67,265 mt); Russia, 27,428 mt (1,791 mt); India, 27,183 mt (7,550 mt); Turkey 25,628 mt (19,267 mt); Zimbabwe, 17,903 mt (6,119 mt); and Sweden, 11,609 mt (5,745 mt).

The US imported 33,483 mt of ferrochrome containing <=0.5% C, NESOI in the first 10 months of 2017 and 2,746 mt in October vs. 26,538 mt and 1,120 mt, respectively, in the same 2016 periods.

The major suppliers in the first 10 months of 2017 (same 2016 period in parentheses) were: Russia, 12,154 mt (5,008 mt); Germany, 5,045 mt (mt); Kazakhstan, 4,035 mt (4,390 mt); Turkey, 2,710 mt; (2,176 mt) and Japan, 2,486 mt (1,554 mt).

South Africa reportedly exported 6,060 mt in the first 10 months of 2017 but the material was probably mislabeled medium carbon.
