Can and will South 32 spin off manganese?

After its own creation from a split from BHP Billiton, South 32 executives now say the company plans to spin off its  South African Energy Coal (SAEC) business as a stand-alone by April 2018, with a possible the possible listing of the asset on the JSE. That might even make more sense for South 32’s manganese business, with operations in South Africa and Australia. “Right now manganese is hot and the margins are great,” one analyst said. “With some of the lowest cost mines and smelters in both countries, it would be an easy sell with a dual listing in South Africa and Australia and possibly even London. It would be the world’s largest manganese supplier and have pricing power.”
