Chinese export tax likely to stay for ferroalloys

Despite all the rumors, it looks like the Chinese government will NOT eliminate the export duty on certain ferroalloys. Instead, insiders say the government will likely do away from the export duty and export licensing on minerals, most importantly magnesite. The government has made no attempt to go through the export licensing covering 2017 for most of minerals and time is running out. However, the provinces where many of the minerals are located may impose a resource tax which more than compensates for the loss of the export tax and licensing fees.
