FeNi and FeSi from Brazil under the dumping microscope

With ferroalloy prices spiking the last thing anyone is thinking about is dumping…wrong again.

Don’t be surprised to see a new round of dumping cases, with Brazil, and possibly China in the crosshairs. Trade watchers in both the EU and the US have hinted Brazilian imports of both ferronickel and ferrosilicon are being looked at.

In the case of the EU, the volume of EU ferronickel imports from Brazil increased by 300% between 2013 and 2016 to over 40%. Imports from the four other main importers decreased. The share of EU total imports from Brazil increased from 7% in 2013 to 34% in 2016.

For ferrosilicon, after a decrease between 2013 and 2014, the volume of EU imports from Brazil increased by 120% between 2014 and 2016. Imports from the four other main importers mostly decreased

After a decrease between 2013 and 2014, the share in EU total imports from Brazil increased to 5% in 2016. The share in imports from the four other main exporters decreased.
