Chrome and ferrosilicon producers should charge for the iron content

While probably not a popular idea, especially in depressed markets, I still believe that ferroalloy producers, mainly ferrosilicon and ferrochrome smelters, should charge for the iron content in their alloys. Historically, it has been a contained Si and Cr price, but that system was instituted before iron had any real value. It’s a definite cost for the smelters but they are afraid to impose the fee. Maybe it’s time to do it before iron regains any real value.

Of course buyers will object but any change will be fought regardless of its validity.
